"...Aghhh..."

The world around the dazed Zoroark was blurry. He stared at a bright blue horizon, mixed with yellow out of a corner, and white spots dotted across. A green, red winged object-perhaps a dragon-flew across it for less than a second.

Loud cracks reverberated in the air, which brought Arthur to his senses. He quickly sat up, and scrambled to the nearby car. He looked towards where the cracks came from.

"Aw, hell..."

The loud cracks were gunfire-coming from a parked Stryker on the road, with its main gun and guard soldiers firing at something not too far away-another Stryker on its side, motionless. Meanwhile, in the air, a Flygon circled over the area.

Crap! The others!

Remembering his friends, Arthur ran over, trying not to be seen by the opposing force. He took cover behind a wide concrete block, with the Stryker a stone's throw away from him across a small clearing-one that was wide open, and would get him killed if he stepped out into it.

"Hold your fire!" one soldier said, putting his hand up in the air. The soldiers and the Stryker gunner stopped firing, but were still aware of their target. While the other soldiers took cover behind very short walls, the soldier waved his hands up to the Flygon, signaling for it to come down. It did so, hovering in midair above him.

"Flygon!" he said. "Use Dragonbreath on the target!"

It let out a cry and nodded, turning its head to Dan's Stryker and inhaling a deep breath.

Oh no you don't!"

At that moment, Arthur stepped out from cover, pulled out his sidearm, and fired two shots at the Flygon. The bullets tore through the Flygon's wings, making it howl in pain.

"Hey!!"

At that instant, everything happened at once. The soldiers opened fire at Arthur this time, with a bullet cutting into the Zoroark's shoulder by a centimeter.

"Gah!"

He ducked back behind his cover, holding his now-bloody shoulder. The wound wasn't too bad, though. Meanwhile, the rear door on Dan's Stryker burst open, and a Grovyle and Simisage came out.

"Suppressing fire!!" Dan yelled, firing his rifle at the soldiers on the road. He used the opened Stryker door for cover. Travolta sprinted across the clearing towards Arthur, miraculously not getting shot as he returned fire with a pistol in one hand. He slid to Arthur's cover, to his surprise.

"Travolta!" he said. "Is everyone alright?"

The Simisage coughed a bit before he answered. "As in casualties, nope," he said, "but as in just anything...yeah." He revealed his left forearm, which had a long cut running down it from the shoulder to the ankle. "I got this, while Lennon's glasses got cracked. Everyone else is fine."

Arthur winced. "Ouch, does your arm hurt too much?"

Travolta shook his head, and jumped from cover to fire at a few soldiers, eventually downing one. He ducked behind cover again to reload.

Suddenly, Delilah and Marina came to mind in Arthur's head. He became alarmed.

"W-wait! The Floatzel and Buizel-are they okay?!" he nearly shouted.

"Calm down!" Travolta said, putting a hand on Arthur's shoulder-unfortunately, it was the one that was bloody. Realizing this, he pulled his blood-covered hand back. "You okay?"

"It's not too bad, just a scratch!"

"They're fine, they should be coming out now, see?"

He pointed back to the door of the Stryker and Dan, which behind him stumbled out Lennon, who led Delilah, Marina, Ridley and Ilona behind the Stryker to safety.

Dan turned his head to Arthur and Travolta. "He okay?!" he shouted.

"Yeah!" Travolta responded, stepping out to shoot again. Dan fired at the overhead Flygon, who was flying around to avoid getting hit. Unfortunately it was shot again in the abdomen, which made it crash to the ground. It passed out, and was recalled into its Pokeball by the soldier who owned it. That same soldier was shot dead by Dan a second later.

Dan took the opportunity to run over to Arthur and Travolta, to direct attention away from Lennon and the weaker Pokemon in their group. He also took cover behind their block.

Dan looked at Arthur. "Sorry about the hit mate, are you okay?"

Arthur was pissed. "Okay? I nearly got killed! This is why I'm driving next time!"

"You think I give a care about that?" The three exchanged fire with the four remaining soldiers and vehicle-but it was almost certain that the soldiers were going to overpower the three Pokemon, who were now at this point, fighting for their lives.

Meanwhile, Lennon and the others hid behind the Stryker for safety. Ridley and Ilona hung on to each other in fear, as Delilah tried to calm a terrified Marina in her arms.

Lennon pointed towards the cliff. "Remember what Dan told us, we need to run while they're covering us!"

"But how are we supposed to get down there?!" Delilah nearly shouted. "It's a long drop-none of us will survive!"

Lennon pulled out long ropes from the Stryker, behind the cover of the door, and returned, "He said we tie one end of these to something sturdy at the cliff, while we throw the other end down. Then we jump down holding on to the rope, from wall-to-wall, slowly!"

Delilah glared at him. "I'm not a soldier like they are, I can't jump down a mountain! Especially when I have my daughter with me!"

Lennon let out an annoyed sigh. "They'll do something, I'm sure!"

While the Dewott reasoned with the mother Floatzel, the three fighting Pokemon were struggling. Dan was grazed straight through his headleaf, making a small hole in it with burn marks outlining it. They were also running out of ammunition.

Dan ducked back down to cover, wincing in pain at his leaf wound. "We're low on ammo, we're not going to last long!" Dan shouted. He tried to signal Lennon by waving his hand.

"Lennon!!" he screamed. Hearing the call, the Dewott turned around.

"Huh?" he responded, trying to hear them over the gunshots.

"Get them out of here now, we're covering you!" he commanded.

He turned back to his group. "I'm sorry, but we need to go right now!"

"..Oh, Arceus..." Delilah whispered, fearful. Her child remained silent in her arms. "...I have a terrible fear of heights, I don't know.."

"Let's get out of here!" Ridley and Ilona said in unison.

Lennon took Delilah by the hand and hurried towards the cliff, despite her opinion. Ridley and Ilona followed them closely. They all kept their heads down, trying not to attract attention.

Dan saw the Pokemon leaving, then responded by getting Arthur and Travolta's attention.

"We're rappeling down the canyon now!" he said, standing up again to provide cover fire.

Arthur was confused. "Wha? Rappelling down the--?"

"That's the exit plan," Travolta explained. "We can't get out any other way-we'd get killed if we tried!"

"But what about-"

"No time for questions!" Dan interjected, as he quickly reloaded his weapon with his last magazine. "I'm out of ammo! Go now!"

Dan then stood up and provided one last wall of fire. Arthur then began running towards the cliff, followed by Travolta. Dan came right behind them, running and firing at the soldiers at the same time.

Soon, they jumped down a small drop in front of the cliff-just large enough for them to hide behind. They met up with the other Pokemon there. The enemy fire stopped.

"Okay, everyone!" Dan whispered, getting everyone's attention. He stood next to a pole. "We're going to rappel down the cliff using ropes to safety! It's the only way out of here! Now tie your rope to this pole!"

Ridley and Ilona were shocked. "What?!"

"Shh! Someone here'll carry you both, you'll be fine!" He did the action himself, and stood near the cliff. He threw his rope down the cliff.

"I'll take Ridley," Travolta volunteered, picking him up. He tied his rope to the pole.

"I'm with Ilona!" Lennon announced, picking her up, tying his rope to the pole as well. Both him and Travolta stood at the edge of the cliff, and threw their ropes over, hanging on to them.

Delilah stepped forward to Dan, carrying her daughter.

"Please, sir.." she pleaded, a tear coming out of her eye. "If I'm going to do this...just keep my daughter safe...please.." She held out Marina, who was a little startled.

"...I will, ma'am." Dan gently took the child into his arms. He smiled at her. "Hello there, sunshine..."

She looked to her mother. "Mommy, where are you going...?" she said, a little scared.

Delilah tied her rope to the pole, and kneeled to her child in Dan's hands. She kissed her on the cheek.

"Mommy'll be right back, okay...?" she said, another tear trickling down her cheek. "This young mister will take care of you..."

"...Okay, Mommy..."

Arthur, who stood next to the pole, tied his rope to the pole and looked at the Floatzel. She tied her end of the rope to the pole and looked at the sky, trying to hide her tears. She didn't know what to do-she was in danger, and the only way to save herself was to do something extremely dangerous-at the risk of losing everything, including her child.

...She won't make it by herself..

"Delilah, I'll carry you down," he offered. He stepped forward.

Delilah looked at him a bit, blushing a little. She stopped crying. "You will...?"

Arthur nodded, and proceeded to pick her up in his arms. He almost struggled with her heavy size-she seemed a bit heavier than a normal Floatzel.

"Wow, you're pretty big, now aren't you?" he commented, while slowly walking towards the edge of the cliff.

"Well, I'm pregnant, so..." she sighed.

Arthur was surprised. He was right, but it posed a new problem for them...

He threw the rope down, and once it stopped, he held it in his hands. "Since I'm holding the rope with both of my hands, you need to hang on to me and never let go, okay?" he instructed. She nodded.

"Go, go, go!" the nearby shouts of soldiers came as footsteps came from far away.

"Let's go!" Dan whispered, turning around and jumping backwards off the cliff, with Marina secured in one arm. Lennon and Travolta did the same with their Pokemon.

Arthur turned around, and began to slowly jump off the cliff. Delilah began to breathe heavily.

"...Oh, no.." she whispered. She tried her best not to look down.

"It'll be okay...your daughter's safe, and so are you..." he comforted.

Arthur briefly looked down, while they descended. His comrades had gotten farther than him and Delilah. At the bottom of the huge canyon was a river that went in the same direction as the road.

"Hope this gets us somewhere..."
